In most colleges, the most sought courses are the ones that deal with technology. This has increased the competition of IT professionals in the labor market.
Most IT industries are filled with young professionals. This is so because of the high rate of competition and any employee that is found incapable will quickly be replaced by a better one.
Therefore, getting a job in an IT company does not guarantee its longevity.
To sustain the job, strategic planning is needed and these tips will be of help



1. Be ready to adapt
The technology world is changing every single day and you must be ever ready to adapt to whatever new style is in town. For example, before the invention of HTML5 and CSS3, there was HTML4 and CSS, but the HTML5 & CSS3 have more functions and is the most used. if you decide not to learn it saying 'I can still use the old one'. There will be a time when your firm will need a new thing and you will be thought of as getting irrelevant. They might opt to replace you with a younger option.
Therefore, you must always be ready for change. Any employee that adapts quickly as the market changes will always continue to be in demand.

2. Have a good understanding of the business
When you venture into your career, you must have knowledge of how the company operates, how they handle business.
Because you are a developer or IT specialist does not mean all you should be interested in programming.
You should try as much as possible to have knowledge about the business and how you can use it in your field and how to use it for the betterment of the company. This even prepares you for a better position.


3. Always go to relevant conferences
Conferences can be very useful and are one of the platforms where new things can be heard of and learned. it is also a place where you can meet people with similar interests and share knowledge.
However, be cautious of the type of conferences you attend and also set your priorities right.

4. Have Knowledge about you rivals
It is always important that you know about your rivals so as to always stay one step ahead. Their successes and failures should be monitored for you to learn from.
Have a list of firms in your line of work and follow their businesses.

5. Read magazines and tech blogs regularly
Schedule a time for reading magazines and blogs as they contain relevant information about new inventions.

6. Improve on your own
For you to have a long life career, you must organize yourself, set your priorities, and be ready to be responsible for your career.
Although, some companies organize seminars for their employees, you don't have to wait.
While in the business, improve yourself by applying for additional courses to improve. you need to gather more experience and strive for your career. Be ready for change at any point as your department might be scrapped and you are moved to another.
