Embarking on a certain career is a two way thing. it might prove to be very successful or to be a big failure. The failed careers are due to lots of reasons

1. Love of money
Most careers are ruined by money. When the love of money is high, it comes with a sacrifice, time. You won't have enough time for yourself because the higher the salary, the higher the stress you are put through. If you are OK by this, good for you, else it is a disaster.
2. Graduating with the wrong degree
Nowadays, before going to college, the degree has to be relevant in the labor market. There are a lot of irrelevant degrees. Graduating with an irrelevant degree can be disastrous. Some just want to get into college by all means that they just choose any course. however, they might regret this decision. it is always good to consult counselors for help.
3. Passion
You will hear people saying they have passion for a particular thing. But the kind of career they have passion for might not be able to provide for the financial demands. Although, passion also matters, but that is if it has a good pay or the salary is OK by you.
Therefore, whenever you want to choose a career, you must make sure you are OK with the income involved.
4. High salary request
A lot of students have been misled by counselors and lecturers in high school to believe that they can get high salary jobs. This is common to Engineering.
However, these are very rare and depends on the grade the individual graduated with.
5. Fairy tales
The so called guidance counselors can be blamed for this. So many things have been told to them about the outside which turn out to be untrue.
