Most employees complain to me about their bosses being harsh, wicked and all sorts of things. The fact is, it is actually as a result of them turning a blind eye as the work relationship between them.
You don't have to wait for a bad time or when in need before you meet him. It is always good to have built a solid foundation beforehand so that whenever issues arise, he or she will not hesitate to help you.
Although, you can have a really frustrating boss, but the truth is, they all have their soft spot. You need to find out what it is and take advantage as it might be key to your stay at the organization.
Here are some tips on how to build a strong relationship with your manager
1. Support your boss success
Whenever your boss does something fantastic in the company, congratulate him, be happy with his success. Managers like when they see people happy for them and looking up to them. They don't like people who are not alright with their success.
2. Know what he really wants
As an employee, you should always know what it is that is really your manager's objective and what he aims to arrive at, as that is what you will be working towards to. If you don't, you might not be on the right track, no matter how hard you work. You should have a chat with him on what he wants and how you can help him achieve it. By doing this, you will also have rest of mind at work
3. Get to know him better
Your manager is one of the few people you will be seeing very often. To have a great relationship, you must know few things about him. You must know how he behaves, when he is in a good or bad mood and what results to them. You don't have to become best of friends, but try to find out about him.
5. Know what he wants
Since you now know his objectives, always be prepared to help him work towards it.
For instance, if he has a lot of meetings coming up, be there to help him arrange and set his priorities and ask if he needs anything. Also, try to add to whatever is on ground.
6. Do not make empty promises
Be committed to your job and do not give your boss empty promises. Whenever you are expected to do something, make sure you do it and always take him by surprises on things that you didn't even tell him about.
Don't let your manager be worried about you. Having to call you to ask about the work he gave is not a good sign.
7. Present to him what you do best
At times, your boss might be underusing you. Tell him where you can work best and how it will be good for the project. Let him know why you are not up to par in the place you are being deployed. Let him know you talents will benefit the firm.
